Breaking: Self Driving Taxis Hit The Streets
Founded by Travis Kalanick & Garrett Camp in March 2009 in San Francisco, CA of USA, Taxi hailing firm UBER has arose so rapidly that now it has stepped into a new era of Self Driving taxi hailing.
Uber has launched Partially Self-Driving taxis. the service has been started on 14/09/2016 for Pittsburgh only.
But an engineer will always be there on the drivers seat to correct the car if it makes any mistake and for other emergencies. this engineer is needed keep a check on all the functions and equipments whether they are working properly or not. he will always keep his hands on the steering wheel to direct the car when needed. In the car, a touch screen is located at the rear seats in order to give its passengers all trip details.
The passengers who will take ride in these partially self driving taxis will get there ride free.
Notably, Uber plans to install self driving kits to the existing running taxis rather than building new. Uber acquired Otto, a company the works on retrofitting heavy- duty freight haulers on the highway in order to turn them self- driving trucks. Otto's LIDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) senses infrared emissions to help monitor speed, and is geared to be adapted for use in Uber's autonomous vehicles.
Hope the experiments succeed and the service may come to India soon.
This is Future.
